Plastic cover is cracked. Automatic. Sharpens knives up to 185mm in length. Provides a precise, safe method for honing microtome knives and ensures an edge so perfect no stroping is necessary. In operation, the knife is quickly locked in place in the knife holder which holds the knife at a proper fixed angle to the honing plate. A small amount of special abrasive (not included) is squeezed onto the glass honing plate; a transparent plexiglas cover is brought down to ensure a safe, dust and grit free working area; an electrical trimming device is set for desired honing time; and the switch is turned on. The knife is stroked against the high-frequency vibrating glass honing plate and after four strokes on one side of the knife edge, a cam follower automatically flips the knife and four strokes are honed on the other side. The stroking cycle is repeated for the duration of the electrical timer setting. When time elapses, the stroking process stops with the knife held aloft in a horizontal position.
